The inspiration behind this charming project is the beautiful shoes of the regency period. If you look carefully at any Jane Austen tv adaptation you will see their terrific slippers! Now, you too can enjoy a little Jane Austen elegance in your everyday life! I have noticed many designers are channeling this feminine look, and are charging a pretty penny for it, but I created these delightful flats for a little less than 20 dollars! Please enjoy!
You will require:
– A pair of plain flats in a pretty color (velvet would be heavenly!)
– A great deal (I suggest 2 yards) of silk or easily tied ribbon of your choice
– Scissors and measuring tape
– A sewing machine and thread
Side Note: You had best pick a fabric shoe, so that you can easily fasten the ribbon on using a sewing machine!
Second Step – After you have settled upon the length and have cut them (you should have 4 ribbons now), set up your sewing machine. Thread it with a color that matches or complements your ribbon.
Third Step – Now, we will be attaching the ribbon to the shoe in a very interesting way, so I will attempt to explain it carefully to you, so as to avoid confusion! First, drape the end of the ribbon over the edge of the shoe, and leave about half of an inch over the edge in the interior. Then, double it over on the exterior, and pin in place. (Photographs will help!)
Fourth Step – Now, (as photograph demonstrates) use the sewing machine to securely fasten the ribbons to the shoe!
Voilà! These are most assuredly a new favorite!
Until our paths cross once more,
